Lulu Blue is 17, and I feel like it’s all going by too quickly. I just want to pause everything for a minute. I am lucky to have her. She is kind, which I think is one of the most important traits in a person. All the other stuff, the get-by-in-the-real-world stuff is learned as we face successes and challenges, but kindness, you either have it or you don’t, and she has it. That makes me proud.

Lulu Blue and I have been talking for a long time about buying a place of our own. This was something I have always wanted to do, but at the same time, the idea of living in one place for the rest of my life is kind of a terrifying one. It’s my niece’s birthday, and she asked me to make her favorite cake, so of course I said yes. I couldn’t just make a boring old cake, though. I wanted to make it more fun. She is not a little kid, but I feel like with everything going on in the world right now, we could all use a little cheering up. Since blowing out candles is pretty much off the table right now, I though this might be a nice substitute. I didn’t leave much room for the usual “Happy Birthday” script, but I think it’s pretty cute anyway. I’ll let you know how it went! Love, Maca
